25 Years of Groovin' 

 

Established in 1992, Awaken is UCLA’s first-ever a Cappella group, as well as the first co-ed collegiate a Cappella group in Southern California.

Throughout the past 2 decades, we’ve had the privilege of participating in events such as UCLA Spring Sing & Dance Marathon, AIDS Walk LA, The West Coast A Cappella Showcase, The International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, and Absolut A Cappella held at USC; all in addition to our own quarterly concerts and various musical events around campus.

*Fun fact: 6-time Grammy-nominated alumnus Sara Bareilles arranged and recorded the original version of her hit “Gravity” when she was a member back in 2003! She can be heard on our 4th studio album Dysfunktional Family Album, singing solos for both “Gravity” and Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.”
